Carrier Fighter Squadron VFA-41 "Black Aces"

Fighter Attack Squadron 41 (VFA-41), also known as the "Black Aces", is a United States Navy squadron based at Naval Air Station Lemoore, California.

Some important features of the VFA-41 are: 

  1. Aircraft: They operate the F/A-18F Super Hornet, a fourth-generation, twin-engine multirole fighter.
  2. Affiliation: They are assigned to Carrier Air Wing 9 (CVW-9).
  3. Radio callsign: "Fast Eagle".  

It was founded on 1 September 1950 as an F2-H Banshee squadron and transitioned to the F-4B Phantom II in 1962. It saw service in the Vietnam War and other conflicts. In 2001 it became the first operational F/A-18F Super Hornet squadron. It shot down two Libyan Su-22 aircraft in 1981, marking the Navy's first air combat since Vietnam, and won the Wade McClusky Award in 1999 as the US Navy's outstanding attack squadron.  

VFA-41 has participated in numerous combat operations and deployments, including the Gulf War, operations in the Balkans, and missions in Afghanistan and Iraq.
